Paris Hilton sued for not returning $60K in borrowed Damiani jewelry

New York, April 7 (ANI): Hotel heiress Paris Hilton has been sued by German insurance giant Allianz for not returning 60,000 dollars in borrowed Damiani jewelry.

The jewelry Hilton borrowed was stolen as part of a 2.8 million dollars jewelry heist in December 2008 at her Los Angeles estate.

However, cops last year recovered all the missing jewelry as part of a takedown of a celebrity burglary ring that targeted boldface names, including actors Megan Fox, Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan.

Now, Alianz claimed the socialite never bothered to return the jewelry after police returned it and the Louis Vuitton bag it was stolen in to her.

"Despite having recovered Damiani's jewelry, [Hilton has] failed to return all of the jewelry to Damiani as required by the Agreements," the New York Daily News quoted the suit as saying.

In court paper, Allianz said Damiani in 2007 loaned Hilton 60,000 dollars of jewelry to wear for public appearances. As part of the deal, Hilton agreed to stash the jewelry in a safe or a vault whenever she wasn't wearing it.

She did none of that, the suit said, and instead had a habit of leaving her mansion's front door unlocked and its alarm system turned off.

"On Friday, December 18, 2009, in the early morning hours, Hilton left her mansion and attended a party at Bar Delux in Hollywood, California," it said.

"At some point that night, the Damiani jewelry was placed in Hilton's closet and not in the safe as required by the Agreements.

"On December 18, 2009, Hilton left the front door to her mansion unlocked. Like the front door, Hilton also left the safe unlocked that was supposed to be used to secure the loaned Damiani jewelry," the suit added.

A man in a hooded sweatshirt then strolled in through the front door, the suit says, taking off with 2.8 million dollars of jewelry that was "sitting in plain sight" in Hilton's closet.

"The burglar stole all of the loaned Damiani jewelry by sweeping the items off the closet shelves into one of Hilton's Louis Vuitton handbags," according to the suit. (ANI)

'Inspector Vijay had spontaneity and style

Firstly, what appealed to you about your character (ACP Vishnu Kamth) in Dum Maaro Dum?
The character in general appealed to me. I enjoyed reading him. As Rohan described him, he seemed like a very layered person, the kind I’ve never played before. He had a lot of conflicting emotions although he was very straight-forward and had a calm demeanour.

Over the years, you must’ve seen many onscreen cops and now you’re playing one, so who do you think has been most iconic or memorable?
That’s a no brainer, really (laughs). It’s always been dad. I mean everyone has grown up having had a healthy appetite for Inspector Vijay. What I particularly like about him playing a cop was that he was very spontaneous and he would just go ahead and do something and do it with style. And no, I didn’t ask him for any tips for playing my character in Dum Maaro Dum (smiles).


This is your third film with Rohan Sippy and you guys have been childhood friends as well. So how does that translate at work?
It really helps if you know your director well and it’s even better if you’re friends. And Rohan and I have gone to school together so it becomes a very comfortable working with him. It’s just that when we’re on the sets, and he has to tell me something or explain a scene, he knows that I am an actor and also a friend. And I’m not the kind of actor who shuts down to himself. I always heavily lean on my directors. And in this case, Rohan and I spent a lot of time discussing my character before we went to the sets so that I could own the character that I’m executing.

You’ve rapped in this film again after your last gig in Bluffmaster. So have you sworn to reserve your rapping skills only for Sippy?
(laughs) Honestly, no one has asked me to do it after Bluffmaster. 

Who are the rappers or music artists you look up to in recent times?
When I was a kid, I really liked Young MC. Now I think Nelly is great, Timberland, Justin Timberlake is great in hip-hop. Then I’m really happy for the great work Jay Sean is putting in, he’s a good friend as well.

Now, every actor would say that they like doing every kind of role but do you have a pet favourite?
I don’t know how to respond to that. I don’t have a dream role. What you really want to do keeps changing or evolving every year. So it’s difficult to pin-point one kind of role that would be the ultimate dream role. If you ask me today, I’d say I’m really enjoying myself playing a thief, which is what my character is, in Players, that I’m presently shooting for. 

But is there a kind of character that you feel comfortable playing? Something that comes very naturally or easily to you?
I think it’s very important to create your own comfort zone since you won’t always get to play what you’re comfortable playing. So the challenge is to make what you’ve signed up for seem comfortable. If you don’t, it will seem like a laboured performance. 

How does one do that?
There is no set formula that works for two different roles. So you have to figure out which is the process based on the character you’re playing. And no one will help you with that. You have it do it yourself.  

Why Salman watched the World cup?

Salman Khan may not be the biggest cricket fan in the film fraternity. However, he stayed glued to the TV screen when India played the semis and then the finals of the cricket World Cup. And there is a singular reason for his peculiar behaviour demonstrated by our Bollywood’s bad boy.

Salman, who returns to the big screen this Eid, in the remake of a southern super hit film Bodyguard, watched the last two matches of the cricket world cup intently, as there were lots of VVIPs in the stadium, moving along with the general crowds. Salman wanted to observe and learn the body language and behaviour of the bodyguards of these VVIPs and the SPG (Special Protection Group), a highly trained security personnel, in charge of the security for the Prime Minister and the likes of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Salman wanted to observe how they manage the VVIPs in a crowd situation, and how they move about in the crowd and attend to their clients, and what better way than to by study them while they’re on the job. 

In fact, these observations benefitted Salman immensely. He has even made subtle changes in his character in Bodyguard, following the cricket matches. Says Atul Agnihotri, producer of  
Bodyguard, "Salman Khan wanted to understand the body language of the SPG. These guys are trained to blend and protect Z-plus personalities. So Salman, though not a frantic cricket buff, watched the India-Pakistan match without missing even a second."
